Tile Roofing
Concrete and clay tile roofs laid to manufacturer spec, from single replacements to full re-tiles.
How we can help
Concrete and clay tile roofs are only as good as how they're laid. We fit tiles to manufacturer specification: correct laps, correct fixings, correct ventilation, whether we're replacing a handful of broken tiles or re-tiling the whole roof.
Fixing specification matters more than most homeowners realise, a roof on an exposed hillside or near the Solway coast around Stranraer or Wigtown Bay needs a different nailing and clipping pattern to one in a sheltered street in town, and getting that wrong is exactly why some tile roofs lose tiles in every storm while the neighbour's doesn't. We also fit dry ridge systems as standard where they suit the roof, since mortar-bedded ridges are one of the most common things we get called out to re-bed after a few winters.

What’s covered
A tile roof is only as good as the way it's fixed down. Get that part wrong and you lose tiles every time it blows a gale, which is why one house on a street sheds tiles each winter and the one next door never does.
Fixing spec that suits the site
An exposed hillside, or anywhere near the Solway around Stranraer and Wigtown Bay, needs a different nailing and clipping pattern from a sheltered street in town. We fix to the manufacturer's spec for your wind exposure rather than a standard inland pattern, which is exactly where a lot of tile failures start.
Repairs and full re-tiles
Cracked and slipped tiles replaced, matching tiles sourced for older roofs, and complete re-tiles in concrete or clay from any of the major manufacturers. Most tile problems are a partial repair, and we'll say so rather than quote you for a whole roof you don't need yet.
Ridges, hips and ventilation
We fit dry ridge systems where they suit the roof, because mortar-bedded ridges cracking out after a few winters is one of the most common things we get called back to. Ventilation goes in as standard to keep condensation out of the loft.
Concrete or clay, we'll give you the honest comparison for your roof and your budget rather than pushing whichever is easiest for us to get hold of.
Signs you need this
Tile roofs tend to fail slowly and then all at once. Any of these is worth getting checked before the next spell of bad weather:
- Cracked or slipped concrete or clay tiles
- Mortar crumbling away from ridge or hip tiles
- Tiles that rattle or lift slightly in strong wind
- Water staining on ceilings below a valley or hip
- Moss build-up trapping moisture underneath tiles
- A tiled roof coming up to 30-40 years old

Questions about tile roofing
Concrete tiles are more common and cost-effective, clay tiles have a different profile and colour that suits some properties better and typically outlasts concrete. We'll advise based on your roof and budget, not just what's cheapest to source.
